The greatest horror is also the greatest paradox; to face an infinite end…

Insect: It's the angles, stupid (1/30/11).
Getting all kinds of ideas right now. The one thing that never stops surprising me, is how a film can begin to write itself. In the span of just a few hours, I’ve created some poster art, changed the kind of insect to be used, considered an alternate ending (which as of now, actually has no traction), trying to find a way to violate a few rules and yet keep those violations plausible, and...
Insect: Change of creature...
Think that fly might be a wasp instead. Instant transformation, in a flash.
Insect: Sound Editing (1/28/11)
It’s a pretty cool thing to be piecing together sounds before anything is even shot..kind of makes me wish I had done that for other projects as well.
I’ve actually managed to construct the ending with nothing but the music and sound effects…it actually helps me “see the frame” more, complimenting the script.
Sound on set will be a definite thing.
The bleakness of an ignominious obscurity gives birth to an identifiable...

Insect: Scene of the hallucination...
Pillows and sheets will change.
Keep the stands.
White walls? Maybe.
Green paper on the windows? In all likelihood.
Something thematic on the wall…something polymorphous…
Insect: Sound Editing (1/25/11)
Getting some sounds together for the next couple of days, and I actually found a piece of music to use for the film. Classical, sparse, and fitting for the end, and with no fear of a lawsuit in sight!

Thinking of shooting with the Nikon D3100 DSLR for INSECT. Here’s a test someone shot.
A brief reminiscence: Untitled Erotica, No. 6...
UNTITLED EROTICA, NO. 6 was an interesting ride to say the least. It was the first project I took on that had nudity, and the sexuality had to be more raw than anything else I’ve ever shot before that. 1999 was a year of exploring sex in cinema. EYES WIDE SHUT came out that year, and I remember feeling emboldened to try something semi-risque.
There is always an underlying meaning, or at the...

Insect: Sound on set (1/21/11)
Playing with the idea of recording some sounds to play on set during the shoot, maybe 8 minute loops of ambient tracks. At the very least it will create a mood, a place for everyone to be. Not necessarily the same tracks to be used in post, but close cousins of them.
Might paint the walls as well…

Insect: Coming along...(1/20/11)
Things are coming along for the film.
Got the actors, the crew, and the location.
Next I need to get with the DP and talk about the hardware to be used.
Also need to start gathering props.
Insect: Online Collaboration (1/19/11)
Insect will be part of an anthology of short films titled Entomology.
I was fortunate enough to establish communication with another filmmaker, whose work interested me, on the Vimeo site. One thing lead to another, and the next thing we know, we’re brainstorming about a possible collaboration, and agreed to do something revolving around insects as our theme. The short film anthology, we...

Insect (1/18/11)
I’ve been messing around a bit with some sounds, and despite some interesting things I’ve come across in terms of different sources not in the script, I’ve come to the conclusion that sometimes simple is better…the script seems to be right in terms of the soundtrack flow. It certainly doesn’t mean things won’t change a bit in post-production, but right now it...
Thought for the day...
Why do I know more about the asshole who shot Gabrielle Giffords and the other victims in Arizona, than I do about the victims themselves? The media continues to feed the beast…
Sound
Think I’ll be playing with some soundscapes tomorrow for the film project…stay inspired.
Not looking good for the birds....
Looks like my ‘Hawks are just getting manhandled by the Bears.
The decision not go for it on a 4th and 1 near the Chicago 40 early on was a huge mistake.
Still a better than expected year from a 7-9 team that everyone wrote off.
Some time left as of this posting, but it don’t look good.
Absolutely NO help for Matt Hasselbeck.
Get some better players in next year’s...

Off to watch the games...
While I hold my breath to see the ‘Hawks and Bears tomorrow, the other games will do for now. I’m hoping for
Ratbirds over Steelers
Packers over Falcons
‘Hawks over Bears
Jets over Patriots
Some will argue the last two are a stretch, but try telling that to the Saints and Colts. Go road warriors.
Thanks, Devora Ran. →

Love this piece by Frédéric Sofiyana.
Proof that it’s all about the artist, and not the paintbrush.
Done with a Lumix LX3
Insect: The Fly....
Thinking of leaning toward old school effects for the creation of the housefly.
Blender is a wonderful program, but you would need to accumulate a ton of hours of expertise to render the effect I’m looking for. One possible resource is filmflies.com.
So it’s looking like latex and bladders…love the organic!
